The majority of the Estonian geological society came together on 14th of April in Tartu, Estonia, to review past years most exiting geological research results and discuss about future trends of Estonian geological study. The EGT-TWINN project was presented at the conference poster session to the wider Estonian geological public for the first time.

The April Conference related to the International Geologists' Day was a long-standing tradition of the Estonian geologists' community. This tradition was renewed in  year by the Estonian Geological Society (EGEOS).

It is a scientific conference where Estonian geologists gather to exchange news about ongoing projects, present results of latest researches, and discuss about directions, focal points, and future trends of Estonian geological research. For this year, the council of the Estonian Geological Society selected three major topics for the conference: geology of the Baltic Sea, Estonian subsurface resources and sustainable mining, and preservation of geological heritage.

Kairi Põldsaar (EGT-TWINN head of communications) introduces the project at the conference poster session.
Many of the topics covered at the confernce are of great importance and interest also regarding the EGT-TWINN project. The most comprehensive section of the conference - "Estonian mineral resources and sustainable mining" covered topic from the current state of geothermal energy usage in Estonia to our presently non-mined phosphorite recources, and from Estonian potential iron-ores to current state and usage of peat resources. All of these are the areas where EGT-TWINN project is focusing on enhancing the geological capacity of the Estonian Geological Survey. Hence, the conference was a superb oportunity for the Estonian Geological Survey to disseminate the lates research results alongside with colleagues from the two major universities of Estonia - The Unviersity of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology. There has always been tight co-operation between the EGT and Estonian research and educational institutions, for which the EGT-TWINN project now adds further international scope and hopefully widens the countries research horizons even further.

The April Conference was organised by the Estonian Geological Society,  University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology and the Geological Survey of Estonia (EGT) .
