Intro to geothermal energy and aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) in sedimentary rocks, part 1

9-13 October 2023
Participation is restricted to EGT-TWINN partner organisations
This photo was taken Late September 2023 in Aarhus, Denmark, where a drilling rig is drilling the initial section of a geothermal borehole for the biggest geothermal power plant in Europe.
Colleagues from the Estonian Geological Survey will visit The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) in the week of 9-13 October for Activity 2.7.1, "Introduction to geothermal energy and aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) in sedimentary rocks". During this week, colleagues from GEUS will provide an overview of geothermal energy usage in Denmark and share their knowledge and expertise in reservoir characterisation of potential geothermal reservoirs. The 5-day workshop is filled with presentations, a field trip to the famous chalk cliffs of Stevns and the Faxe quarry, an investigation of cores from geothermal reservoirs, mineralogical scanning using SEM and porosity/permeability measurements on Estonian core plugs. The last day will focus on Estonia's Ediacaran and Cambrian strata in preparation for a visit to EGT's Arbavere core facility in North-Estonia in early December this year.
