Explore the backgrounds of our conference speakers—a talented group of experts ready to bring their knowledge and insights to our event.

Sirli has been the leader of the Estonian Geological Survey since 2020. She has a Master's Degree from the Tallinn University of Technology as an engineer in chemical technology. Sirli has worked as a researcher at the Tallinn University of Technology and in the private sector (Viru Keemia Grupp, BiotaTec LLC).
Since graduating from the University of St Andrews in 2008, Paul has worked for the British Geological Survey (BGS) and has led field teams completing soil geochemical surveys in many parts of the UK, including the London Earth project, the largest urban soil survey in the country. Since 2018 his focus has been delivering geochemical maps, products and publications based on the BGS’ nationwide geochemical survey dataset.
Tarja is working at the Geological Survey of Finland as an expert in projects related to water and soil parent material geochemistry as well as geological environmental risks. Her work includes geochemical mapping and research of groundwater and soil, especially in mining and mineral potential area surroundings.
Heli has worked for the City of Helsinki since 2016 as an environment inspector and a project manager in an EU project (Circular Economy). Since 2020, the main focus has been on the remediation of contaminated sites and the use of waste material in earth construction. As a city representative, Heli finds the knowledge and data gained from geochemical baseline studies precious, for instance, in handling declarations on the remediation of contaminated soil or groundwater.

Elina has been working at the Geological Survey of Estonia since 2020. She has a Master's degree in environmental technology from the University of Tartu. Her field of expertise is environmental geochemistry, including topics like mining waste, natural radiation and chemical contamination in soil and groundwater.

Aire has worked at the Estonian Ministry of Environment (now Ministry of Climate) since 2012. 2012-20123 advising at the Department of Environmental Management, focusing on environmental taxation and economic instruments, sustainable development, green reform and transition. Currently working as the head of soil policy at the Ministry of Climate. Has a Master's Degree in Finance and Macroeconomics from the University of Tartu.

Hans has been studying the interactions between environment and health during the last 20 years in more than 30 different research projects. He has mainly focused on outdoor and indoor air pollution, industrially contaminated areas, extreme weather events, environmental noise effects, and health risk perception. His earlier research also includes heavy metal content analysis in air and peat, and currently, he is setting up a human biomonitoring initiative in Estonia. Hans has a PhD in Environmental Medicine from the Umea University.
Kairi has studied molecular biology and genetics and is currently working on her PhD in analytical biochemistry. She is working as a lecturer of systems biology at the University of Tallinn. Her research also includes studying the safety of soil for growing food.

Kadi has a Master's degree in environmental management and she is currently a PhD student in Health Behaviour and Wellbeing at the University of Tallinn focusing on the environmental microbiota and abiotic factor's role in the augmentation of human health.

Martin is a geochemist and marine geologist. He has a PhD from the University of Tartu where he has been working since he was a student. in 2020 he joined the Geological Survey of Estonia, working mainly on projects related to marine geology and geochemistry.
