Introduction to collecting field data and the field trip "The Cambrian of Scania and Öland, southernmost Sweden"
27-31 March 2023, Denmark and SwedenRegistration restricted to EGT-TWINN partners!
The field excursion to Scania aims to demonstrate the c. 150 m thick Lower Cambrian sandstone-dominated sequence and the overlying Middle Cambrian-Early Ordovician organic-rich Alum Shale Fm. This latter unit is up to c. 100 m thick and has been the primary unit in focus in connection with shale-gas exploration in Denmark and southern Sweden. The Cambrian succession reflects a fairly high sedimentary supply during the Early Cambrian transgression, followed by strong sedimentary starvation during the Mid Cambrian-Ordovician sea level highstand. Scania was located near the margin of Baltica and was transgressed in the earliest Cambrian and subsequently became part of the outer shelf environment.
